Chan Mi Gong Qigong Workshop
with Franz Möeckl

Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 9:30 am - 5:30 pm
Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Chan Mi Gong is an ancient Qigong style based on two systems. The Chinese Buddhist Ch’an tradition and the Tibetan Mi school. It was kept secret for long time and was mainly practiced by monks in the highlands of the Himalaya. In 1988, the late Grandmaster Liu Han Wen published for the first time a book called “Zong Chan Mi Gong” and introduced Chan Mi to the public. Before that, the teaching would be passed on only orally in his family.

The specialty of Chan Mi is the slow, gentle, snakelike movements of the spine which leads to:

• Flexibility and subtleness of spine
• Releasing tension and energy-blockages in the whole body, especially the spine and joints
• Facilitating free flow of life-force (Qi ) throughout the body
• Union of mind and body, of inner and outer movements
• Earth – Human being – Cosmos the basic principle of Chan Mi Gong

On this weekend you will learn the basic exercise of Chan Mi which consists of:

• Opening the three energy centers Perineum (Earth); Heart (Human); Third Eye (Cosmos)
• Movements of the spine in:
a) wavelike motion
b) swaying motion
c) twisting motion
d) combination of all 3 movements
• Uniting inside and outside
• Collecting the Qi and washing the spinal cord

About Franz

Franz Möeckl lived from 1979–83 in a Taoist hermitage in the Rocky Mountains under the guidance of Gia Fu Feng. While he was a Buddhist monk in the Theravada tradition, he came across a booklet with the teachings of Chan Mi Gong in 1988 in Malaysia. A few years later he met and studied Cha Mi Gong with Liu Han Wen and Ma Hui Wen. He also was a student of  Ken Cohen, and trained and taught at the “Stress-Reduction-Clinic” at University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn. He lives now in Tiruvannamalai, South India, and teaches at various meditation centers in the US (Spirit Rock, IMS), in Europe and Asia.

Summer Yoga Intensive with William

Deepen and Stregthen Your Practice with Twice Daily Classes
Integrating Meditation and Asana

Sunday, August 14 to Friday, August 19

This class will combine yoga asanas with Vipassana (mindfulness) meditation practice. You will practice with the focus on bringing meditative concentration to the asana practice. Mindfulness (Vipassana) meditation is a simple and direct practice, the moment-to-moment observation of the mind/body process through calm and focused awareness. Learning to observe experiences from a place of stillness enables one to relate to life with less fear and clinging. Seeing life as a constantly changing process, one begins to accept pleasure and pain, fear and joy, and all aspects of life with increasing equanimity and balance. This workshop is for students with at least one year of experience and will include asana and dhyana (meditation) in the Vipassana tradition. You may be a beginner to meditation practice.
